North Eastern Beefalo Association

Formed in the early 1980's as the New England Beefalo Association (NEBA) by fourteen charter members, the organization has grown and expanded its coverage within the northeastern US to include all of the New England states, New York, New Jersey, and Canada. NEBA has pursued the direction and rules of registry of the American Beefalo World Registry.

In 1995 NEBA membership adopted a set of bylaws and registered as a nonprofit organization in the state of Vermont with the broader name of North Eastern Beefalo Association (still NEBA). NEBA continues today as an independent entity with approximately 40 members.

The general focus of the organization has been to be a communications facilitator for the breed in the northeast and generally promote the breed to those who would be interested in raising and marketing Beefalo. Over the years, NEBA has offered Field Day/Open House programs in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont, an annual meeting, NEBA newsletter, semen for artificial insemination, and an array of promotional materials such as NEBA hats and T-shirts. This year in lieu of a Field Day, NEBA will support participation of a number of young folks showing Beefalo at several county and regional fairs with promotional displays and a number of NEBA producers.

The primary purpose of NEBA, continues to act as a central geographic focus for the breed in the northeast, to make known the positive characteristics of the animal itself and the products offered to the public. Perhaps most importantly, NEBA helps the membership as well as prospective producers to understand the basic rules for raising and registering a herd of Beefalo. We continue to provide information throughout the year to NEBA members and focus on issues and prospects for the future.
